Precautions for seed pelleting

Seed pelleting is a technique by which seeds are coated to improve their shape, size, weight and surface characteristics, often used for small or irregular seeds (e.g. vegetables, flowers) to improve seeding accuracy, emergence rate and stress resistance. Here are the key points to look out for in this process:

1. Seed quality basis

Select seeds: Ensure high initial seed quality (germination rate, purity, vitality), remove damaged or low vitality seeds, pelleting can not repair internal defects.

Pretreatment: Disinfection (e.g., fungicide treatment), breaking dormancy (stratification, seeding), or priming (initiation) as needed to improve germination consistency.

2. Pellet material selection

It is necessary to choose the pellet powder with good air permeability and high water cracking degree, which will not affect the germination rate of the seed

3. Process control

Layer wrapping: Add material layer by layer and roll to ensure uniform coverage and avoid uneven thickness affecting germination or mechanical seeding.

Particle size consistency: Adjust the size according to the requirements of the seeder, too large may lead to seedling delay, too small will lose the significance of pelleting.

Drying conditions: Low temperature dynamic drying, to avoid high temperature damage to seeds or lead to cracking of materials.
